FAQs

  • About TheResearchPost
    • What is TheResearchPost?
TheResearchPost is the open-access, peer-reviewed publishing channel on a visual platform that offers the innovative solution for rapid and engaging peer-reviewed publication. Data show that it typically takes 1 to 2 years or longer to write and publish in traditional peer-reviewed medical journals. That is way too long. TheResearchPost can cut that time to write and publish to just a couple months. In addition, your publication is fully open access and published in an engaging and easy to understand format to meet the needs of busy healthcare professionals. Think of TheResearchPost as a journal alternative with the key objectives to accelerate the pace of medical research communication and publish quality data in an engaging visual format that better matches how people read and share information today.
    • Is TheResearchPost peer-reviewed?
Yes. We work to complete peer-review with relevant experts in about 2 to 4 weeks. We also try to skip Reviewer #2 and their oft-mentioned negative attitude to just work with the more constructive Reviewers 1, 3, and 4 as needed.
    • Is TheResearchPost open access?
Yes. TheResearchPost is fully open access. We advise authors to select an appropriate copyright for their published work that fits their needs, so they can use their published data as needed for other communication activities.

Yes. Our DOI is important to ensure that peer-reviewed content published in TheResearchPost is referenceable and discoverable.
    • Does TheResearchPost have an impact factor?
Not yet. While the impact factor is a widely used metric for academic publications, there is substantial debate about the limitations of such metrics. We believe that such metrics may have different importance and incentives for academic vs industry researchers and across different scientific disciplines.
TheResearchPost is a signatory to DORA, the Declaration of Research Assessment, for which the key principal is improving the ways academic institutions, funding agencies, and other groups evaluate the output of scientific research.

Yes. The pharmaceutical industry funds about half of all medical research, so TheResearchPost is certainly interested in publishing industry-supported research. We also are interested in publishing academic and non-industry supported research. We recognize that the pharmaceutical and medical device industries have different incentives to publish when compared with academic researchers, and we strive to work closely with authors from all organizational types to support their peer-reviewed publishing needs.
    • Does TheResearchPost publish publication extenders, such as slide summaries or videos?
TheResearchPost is flipping the script on publication extenders. Publication extenders such as slides or videos, which are recent additions to the publishing landscape, are intended to make the content of a long-form text manuscript more accessible. Research consistently shows that readers prefer shorter and visual formats and that the rapidly expanding volume of research leads to information overload. TheResearchPost offers an engaging visual format that allows the primary peer-reviewed publication to be in a shorter, more visual format, such as slides or a video. All of our submissions require a visual abstract to summarize the study or a key data finding.
We feel the need for publication extenders stems from the mismatch between today’s communication preferences and the format of traditional long-form text manuscripts. However, if an author wishes to submit a more detailed description of the study methodology, results, or discussion, TheResearchPost can support that as an extension of the primary research post submission through a separate link or as a blog post on the author’s page.
    • Why should I consider publishing in TheResearchPost?
We recognize that you have many medical journal options to choose from - tens of thousands of them actually - to submit and publish your research. TheResearchPost offers a journal alternative with features you expect, like quality peer-review and open-access. Additional features of TheResearchPost include an innovative and engaging visual format that allows benefits like 1) faster writing, peer-review and publication times vs a long-form text manuscript for a journal or preprint, 2) better readability and engagement, and 3) unrestricted shareability.
We also recognize that the pace and competitiveness of research is increasing year after year. These research dynamics result in shorter shelf life for research and potential missed opportunity costs resulting from the typical 1- to 2-year publishing timeline. TheResearchPost is designed to match these dynamics, to shorten the timeline to publish, and to communicate the primary publication in an engaging visual format that better matches how people read and share information today.
Finally, we believe TheResearchPost offers a cost-effective solution to publish your results, with authors in many cases being able to work from existing data slides to submit their research post without the time and cost of writing a long-form text manuscript. This approach can be effective for publishing secondary data research posts where the primary methods and results are already published in a long-form text manuscript.
    • What about copyrights?
That's a great question...what about copyrights? TheResearchPost is fully open access and wants the authors to keep the copyright to their published data. It is your research, and you've spent substantial time and money for the study, so you should own your published data. TheResearchPost recommends that authors select a copyright for their published research post that allows them and their institutions to use the data as needed. We only ask for attribution to the original published version in TheResearchPost. We will not charge large sums for you to buy back rights to use your published data.
    • Do researchers and authors really need another new medical journal?
As the saying goes, TheResearchPost is not your father's (or grandfather's) medical journal. TheResearchPost is a peer-reviewed, open-access, publishing channel with an engaging visual format that is designed to address some of the widely acknowledged limitations of traditional long-form text academic articles. Research shows that many published papers are not read at length and that readers typically scan or skim parts of published papers. TheResearchPost provides an engaging solution to rapidly communicate your research effectively in today's world of information overload and competing time demands.
